The Tiberas earthquake of 1033 left behind some survivors:
A complete rare, early Islamic-era oil lamp workshop from ancient Tiberias on the shores of the Sea of Galilee has gone on display at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem.
Ten complete lamp molds, a kiln, and several intact, unused oil lamps dating from circa the mid-7th century to the 11th century were found under debris from a series of earthquakes during excavations this summer, conducted by the Hebrew University Institute for Archaeology’s Israel Archaeological Services. source: https://www.cfhu.org/news/hu-discoveries-revealed-1000-year-old-oil-lamp-workshop-now-on-display-in-time-for-chanukah/
There are many schools of thought that note the occurrence of a large earthquake at the return of the Messiah, and the injunction to “not allow one’s oil” to run dry before that time. In this case, the earthquake happened in the lifetime of William the Conqueror which re-arranged how England would be run along with the future of how Israel would be shaped.
